This video talks about how to throw a square cup. When making a square cup you’re not actually throwing the cup square but rather making a round cup and altering it after it’s been thrown. The video shows two different ways to square off a cup: one by using a tool and pushing out from the inside and the other by using a board to square it off. I use both methods in the video but recommend only utilizing one of the methods for a single piece. These methods can be used to create all sorts of shapes, not just squared vessels. It’s always a good idea to play around with it on a few pieces and see how the clay works with the tools and explore ways to create some amazing new shapes!
