Independent Study Membership
An affordable ceramics space to work & create
The intent of our Independent Study program is to help artists find an affordable space to make their work. We believe members add to the rich culture of the Penguin Foot community. Our monthly membership includes studio access during open hours, glazes, and firings.

Membership requires a minimum 3 month commitment. Membership includes:
A one-time 25lbs of clay at the start of your membership - additional clay can be purchased at $2/lb. Outside clay is not permitted.
Students and members are capped at 50lbs of clay per month. As a community teaching studio we are unable to accommodate production potters.

If you are currently a student who is considering switching to Independent Study, these are the main differences to consider:
Independent Study members must store, keep track of, and reclaim their own clay. Members do not have access to the pyramid of clay pucks, so at least some of your time will be spent reclaiming at the studio. We have regular demos on how to do this properly.
Independent Study members have no designated wheel/table time, and are responsible for making appointments for all time spent in the studio. There are 4 extra wheels that are specifically for Independent Study students that have extended open studio hours, going until 9pm.
Independent Study members have a small locker in which they can store their clay along with any personal tools or supplies in their practice.
Independent Study members are held to the same session timelines for keeping their work moving through the space - all work is thrown out roughly 7 weeks from the end of a session.
Independent Study members are welcome to ask questions of instructors, but any complicated or in-depth demos are reserved for classes. Instructors' priority is the students in their class.
