Sculpture Level 2 (4/28-5/24)

Building on the foundations of Sculpture 1, this course introduces more advanced techniques and encourages experimentation with complex forms and personal expression. Ideal for those seeking to expand their skills, Sculpture 2 emphasizes creativity, exploration, and advanced sculpting methods.
A basic knowledge of hand building level one skills is recommended for success in this class.
Week one: Constructing closed forms. Explaining construction of the hollow form through use of pinch and modified slab processes. Focus on developing a vision and execution of a work utilizing “general to specific” guidelines. With a special focus on effective pacing for consistency of outcomes.
Week two: Refinement. Utilizes the additive and subtractive processes to clarify one’s unique vision. Emphasis on engineering to ensure reliable construction and to avoid unwanted issues such as shelving, warping, cracks, etc.
Week three: Detailing. Cleaning and tightening up surfaces with a focus on clean sharp lines and smooth transitions with tight corners and edges.
Week four: Finishing. The variety of surface finishing applications from glaze to paint will be addressed and tailored to punctuate current works and inform future sculptural endeavors.
Your class registration includes up to 10 pounds of clay fired, all supplies/glazes/firings, and open studio hours to work outside of class time. All you need to do is show up ready to learn!
