2B Glazing for Sculptors: Friday 5-6pm (11/1 + 11/15) - James
This two-week, small group workshopfocuses on techniques using underglazes, stains and stroke & coat commercial glazes. Explore new surface materials to enhance the dimensionality of your work. Application will be focused on sculptural work, but the techniques can be applied to any form.
Week 1: Using underglazes, Stains and commercial glazes to add dimension and depth.
Week 2: Explore ways of applying these materials utilizing the spray booth. Examine and discuss works that have been fired the first week and create plans for future work using these new materials.
2B Using Wood ash to compliment glaze movement and interest: Saturday 12-1pm (11/2 + 11/16) - Hiroki
This two-week class will focus on wood ash application to studio glazes. How to safely use wood ash as an additive to glazes and testing its effects.
Week 1: Introduction to wood ash and glazes. Discussing and using various application techniques, how to process your own wood ash, applying wood ash safely and how to create appropriately sized cookies for your work.
Week 2: Troubleshoot demonstrations from week 1 evaluating results and planning for future pieces using wood ash.
Please note: these glaze workshops are designed as supplements to our 4-week classes. They do not come with clay or open studio time on wheels or hand building tables, only glazing appointments, and we require that you are glazing pots that were made here in the studio. No pre-made bisqueware will be provided. Enrollment in a 4-week class while taking the workshop is not required, but no pots made of outside clay are allowed in our kilns. We recommend that you have at least 4-5 pieces of bisqueware ready to be glazed to participate in these workshops.
